PRESS RELEASE
Policypath, a new independent think tank, launches in Romania
Bucharest, 25 August 2025
Policypath, a new independent think tank that aims to support the act of governing through applied analysis, interdisciplinary expertise, and realistic solutions, delivered in a professional and non-partisan framework, is launching in Romania. The organization's first public event will take place in September.
Policypath, a new Romanian think tank dedicated to governance and strategic analysis, becomes active this autumn. To mark its debut, it is organizing the first edition of the Statecraft Lab event on 9 September in Bucharest.
Founded by Andreea Paul, together with Mircea Gâjâilă and Carmen Mitrea, Policypath aims to provide political and institutional decision-makers with strategic analyses on governance, digitalization, foreign policy, education, and the economy — clear, actionable policy briefs for decision-makers. It will aggregate expertise across multiple fields and conduct research on the impact of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, on the labor market, governance, and national security.
“We are not experts in everything, but we are experts in bringing the right people to the table. Our mission is to generate coherence in strategic thinking and to offer decision-makers solutions, not just diagnoses.”
The launch of Policypath also marks a deepening of Andreea Paul's involvement in public policy. A lecturer at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE) and an expert in European economic governance, Andreea Paul is known for projects such as INACO – the Initiative for Competitiveness, as well as for coordinating a “Guide to the Jobs of the Future.” Paul also has a career at the top of Romanian and European politics, having served in the past as a state counselor and gained experience within the Presidential Administration and the European Parliament.
“Today, Romania needs, more than ever, independent spaces that cultivate strategic thinking, promote informed decisions, and connect relevant expertise with the state's real challenges. It is from this impulse that Policypath is born.”
Alongside her, the Policypath board includes two professionals with experience in fields key to Policypath's mission: Mircea Gâjâilă (vice-president), with experience in national security, strategic communication, and public affairs consulting, focused on the dynamics of institutional relations and on negotiation processes between state and non-state actors. Carmen Mitrea (secretary general) is an expert in European policy, international crisis management, and diplomacy.
The first Policypath event will be dedicated to the dialogue between technology, diplomacy, and governance, and will include two major panels: “E-Governing Romania” – solutions for accelerating digitalization inspired by European models; and “Romania's Foreign Policy in a Changing World” – an analysis of the country's positioning in a volatile geopolitical context.
The founding team promises a highly substantial first edition that will bring together decision-makers, diplomats, and experts, as well as representatives of academia and international partners, confirming Policypath's ambition to become a point of reference in Romania's ecosystem of strategic ideas.
